The CLIMATE EMERGENCY needs an EMERGENCY response!

Next week Hamilton City Council will get an update from staff on the city's climate emergency response to date.  The last update occurred in November of 2020, at which time staff were directed by council to report semi-annually on progress with climate action.  However, as staff confirm in their December 2021 update, they currently lack the capacity to report back twice a year and have subsequently failed to do so during 2021!

We will be delegating at the
December 8th General Issues Committee meeting to call for Hamilton City Council to dedicate the staff resources necessary to ensure that the City of Hamilton responds to the climate emergency like it is an emergency! More resources might mean redeploying existing staff or recruiting new talent to help with the urgent need to finalize and implement key climate action plans, monitor implementation progress, and develop new plans to mitigate and adapt to climate impacts as required.

Please join us in our call for the City of Hamilton to invest the resources necessary to ramp up our climate emergency response! There are a number of actions you can take between now and December 8th:

- Register before noon on Mon, Dec 6th to give a live virtual delegation at the Dec 8th GIC meeting
Click here for the delegation registration page!

-Submit a pre-recorded video delegation or a written delegation by Tuesday December 7th at noon
Send your written or pre-recorded video delegations to [email protected]!

-Write or call your Councillor to let them know you want to see more resources dedicated to the municipal climate emergency response.
Click here for their contact info!

If you require any assistance registering to delegate, submitting a written delegation or a pre-recorded video delegation, please email our Climate Campaign Coordinator Ian at [email protected] - he is more than happy to help!
