Will Sprawl Take it All?
Join Lynda Lukasik for a webinar that will share Environment Hamilton's perspectives regarding current City of Hamilton efforts to plan for urban growth to 2051. The City is currently undertaking a 'land needs assessment' to determine if and by how much Hamilton's urban area needs to expand. The city's draft assessment suggests that accommodating urban growth to the year 2051 will gobble up the entire whitebelt - the area of mostly prime agricultural land wedged between urban Hamilton and the provincial Greenbelt.
EH continues to raise concerns about the need to build more compact, complete communities and protect rural agricultural lands & natural areas if we have any hope of becoming a truly sustainable, climate resilient, inclusive city. We will present these concerns in this session, as well as providing a primer on the 'land needs assessment' that is currently underway at the city.
This session is taking place prior to City of Hamilton public information sessions scheduled for the week of January 18th. It will provide you with our perspectives on this issue to inform your participation in these city sessions. CLICK HERE for details regarding the City of Hamilton's information sessions.
