We Stopped Sprawl - What Comes Next?
The campaign to stop sprawl & save prime farmland in Hamilton culminated in a huge victory with Hamilton City Council voting 13-3 in November, 2021, to freeze the urban boundary and accommodate future urban growth within the existing urban area. But what comes next?
Join us on WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 16th at 7:30PM for a workshop that will provide an overview and a critique of the general planning policy changes being proposed by city planning staff to move us into a sprawl-free future. This session is designed to prepare you to participate in an informed manner in the city's community consultation sessions planned for February/March.
Some Background:
The decision to freeze the urban boundary means that city planners must now set out planning policy changes that will enable more growth to occur within our existing urban area. On January 11th, city planning staff presented these detailed changes to the City of Hamilton's Planning Committee. On January 19th, City Council approved the staff request to be able to consult - both informally and formally - with Hamiltonians about the proposed changes.
