Statement of solidarity with striking CUPE 3906 workers

The board of directors and staff of Environment Hamilton extend our support to the striking McMaster Workers of CUPE 3906. Not only do these researchers and students contribute greatly to the university, but they  contribute greatly to the wider Hamilton community. We strongly believe in all workers earning a living wage.

As a sustainability goal, individuals must  be able to stay within our community while they pursue their education - but with the housing crisis leading to huge increases in rent city-wide, not earning a living wage risks pushing these workers further away from the university and in turn out of our community which they contribute so greatly to.

It is in the best interest of all Hamiltonians to join in the call to McMaster University to bring forward an offer that reflects this reality and adequately compensates their workers  and protects them from further strains such as tuition increases.

Environment Hamilton stands in solidarity with CUPE 3906.
