These industrial stack keys have been designed to help Hamiltonians to call in concerns regarding visible air emissions from stacks in Hamilton's industrial core.
What to look for:
If you see visible emissions coming from a stack (not steam but discolored discharges of a black, brown, green, yellow or orangy-red colour), it is likely that the stack emission that you are viewing is exceeding provincial air quality regulations.
Who to contact:
If you see visible stack emissions, please take the time to call in the incident to the provincial Ministry of the Environment (MOE). Be prepared to indicate the time of day you saw the emission, wind direction, and ideally, the stack that you saw the discharge coming from (this is where the stack keys are handy).
During regular office hours (Monday-Friday, 9am-4:30pm) you can log a formal complaint by calling:
- MOE Hamilton District Office: 905-521-7650
Outside of regular office hours, call:
- MOE's 24 Hour Spills Action Centre: 1-800-268-6060.
The Spills Action Centre will route incident reports back to MOE's Hamilton District Office
